First Annual Partnership Awards
In January 2007, CICCA presented its First Annual CICCA Partnership Awards. These awards were designed to recognize members who "walk the walk" and "talk the talk" in alternative fuels and transportation technologies . Below is a recap of each awardee and their respective alternative fuel and or technology of choice. Biodiesel Award Three years ago when Mike Clark, Transportation Director for the Monroe County School Corporation was asked to participate in a biodiesel pilot program, along with Bloomington Transit and the Indiana University transit system, he had no interest whatsoever. He was certain his busses would leave children stranded on the first cold morning, and irate parents would be looking for him. However, with some persuasion from the Indiana Soybean Alliance, Countrymark Co-op and the local member co-op, White River Co-op, Monroe County School Corporation participated in the pilot. Since then has become a true champion of biodiesel in bus fleets and one of the most outspoken proponents in the industry. With their blend of B20, Monroe County School Corporation displaces over 800,000 gallons of diesel fuel a year.
Natural Gas Award Chuck Dulla and Bob Graham oversee the Marion County Health/Mosquito Control Division fleet. Twelve years ago, they implemented compressed natural gas (CNG) and today are the longest running, non-mandated alternative fuel fleet in Marion County. Currently, they operate fourteen CNG vehicles and are in the process of upgrading their fueling facility to provide the capacity for more CNG vehicles to be added. Their belief in alternatively fueled vehicles is further evidenced by the operation of eight diesel trucks on B20 and 16 flex fuel vehicles that run on E85. In their CNG fleet alone, they displace over 53,000 gallons of petroleum fuel a year.
Ethanol/E85 Award - Jim Gentry Gas America is a privately owned Indiana company that committed to installing E85 in their stores in the spring of 2006. To date, they have seven E85 retail sites that offer not only E85, but B2 and label E10 (for which Indiana has no requirement) on their "Bio-Island." Additionally, Gas America is a partner in our E85 for I-65 application, bringing as many as three more Bio-Islands to Indiana.
All-around Award - Larry Campbell The All-around Award was presented Larry Campbell, Fleet Manager for the city of Ft. Wayne, for everything the city has embraced in the alternative fuel and technologies arena. Ft. Wayne has implemented B20, E85, hybrids and DOCs, and they have programmed their heavy-duty trucks to shut off after 10 minutes of idling. Campbell has been recognized nationally for his outstanding fleet operations and utilization of alternative fuels and technologies, and is one of the reasons Lassus Bros. installed their E85 station in Ft. Wayne.
